The Intensive Residential Treatment Center is a secure residential program for youth ages 7 to 18 with psychiatric disorders. The Center is specifically designed to offer medically directed care for more seriously troubled youth who require supervision, safety and therapy but do not require inpatient psychiatric care. The Center provides round-the-clock supervision, locked/secure facilities and numerous safety and program features. Typically, youth admitted to the Center are unable to function in normal family or community settings. For many of these high-risk youth, placements in traditional treatment programs have repeatedly failed and reunification with the family holds little promise without stabilizing intervention.
Within 24 hours of admission, an individualized initial treatment plan is designed and implemented for each youth. A multi-disciplinary team, including a psychiatrist, therapist, educator, nurse and treatment technician, along with the youth, his/her family and appropriate individuals from the youth’s community, develops a comprehensive treatment plan within one week. Treatment includes individual, family and group therapy, academics, life skills building, and qualitative and quantitative measurement of progress. Throughout their stay, the team regularly evaluates the youth’s progress, revising treatment as appropriate.
Youth from across the United States are considered for placement in the program. Staff is available to assist in evaluating medical necessity and obtaining preauthorization. Referrals from clinical professionals, caseworkers, the juvenile justice system and family members are accepted.
